Navigating Entrepreneurship: Dream Big & Act On It! – Part VII

May 14, 2014

How many of you have a big dream that is still just that – a dream? For whatever reason, you haven’t acted on it but choose to keep putting it off until the perfect conditions present themselves. Maybe your dream is taking your business full time, or maybe it’s scaling back on your professional duties to spend more time living. Maybe you’re waiting until you have more time, more money, more fill-in-the-blank-here. Let me let you in on a secret, friend: those perfect conditions may never come around.

Before you start hyperventilating on me, let me clarify that last bit: those perfect conditions may never come around so act now. A few years ago, I came across this quote on Lara Casey’s blog and it stopped me dead in my tracks. How many dreams, projects and big ideas had I put off until “tomorrow”? How many potentially life-altering experiences had I shrugged off with the excuse of “Oh, I’ll do that later?” The answer is too many, y’all. Honestly, I think the big dreams, I mean the really big dreams, I put off was simply out of fear. The fear of change, the fear of something unknown and the fear that perhaps this dream may be bigger than myself had me paralyzed. Because I chose to let fear be bigger than my dreams, I wasted precious time that could’ve been spent doing something extraordinary.

Excuses come easily. It’s too easy to say “someday,” to wait for more resources, and to let fear bully you into staying complacent. But aren’t your dreams bigger than all of that? Those grand, beautiful dreams that consume your thoughts and keep you up at night scheming and planning for the future – aren’t those lovely visions worth taking a risk? YES! A millions times yes, friends! No dream is too big, too silly, or too outrageous. Your dreams are valid, beautiful and are so worth pursuing. And that means you must take a leap of faith and dive headfirst into making that dream a reality.

While that leap of faith may sound intimidating, it doesn’t have to be! Just take it one day at a time. Choose to chase your dream today, and keep choosing to chase it every day after. Progress comes slowly but that sweet forward motion keeps us moving, not only in the right direction, but also in the path of our dreams.

What big dreams and grand schemes have you been putting off for tomorrow? What choices will you make in order to start moving in the direction of your dreams? Sound off in the comments below! I’d love to cheer you on and encourage you to take that first leap of faith. You can do it, sweet friend! I believe in you.

As a recent college graduate (literally), this post is just what I have been praying for, some words of affirmation. While surgical device sales has always been the plan, over the past year, event design and coordination have become my love. I’ve booked a few events already and often dream of just diving in and opening shop here in Dallas. However, fear plays a huge part of my thought process as well. I needed this post. Thank you sweet Bonnie. You are a true inspiration to so many. Cheers to you!

Hooray, Kristy! What an exciting time in your life right now. How awesome is it that you’re already following your dream straight out of college! Even though fear can play a huge factor into our decision making process, keep in mind that doing what you love is more important than letting fear win. I know it can be scary and uncomfortable, but if we choose to take a leap of faith and continue to make that same choice day after day, great things will happen. So excited for you and what this year holds in store for you! xo
